Flashbacks reveal the origins of Rogue Sentinel (a soldier who volunteered for experimental government enhancement in the 2090s). In the present, Soldier Boy and Lady Thor try to help him control the corruption through brute force and Asgardian techniques. Kiswet attempts an empathic connection, but is nearly overwhelmed by the Sovereign's voice. Rogue Sentinel escapes the Tower during a major blackout. He becomes a dangerous fugitive, unknowingly hunting down members of the Eclipse Sect, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. The New Avengers (led by Spectre and Kiswet) must track him down. Powerful action sequences show just how terrifying a fully corrupted Sentinel would be. Rogue Sentinel hides in the undercity and has a fierce confrontation with the sins of the past. Reed Richards reveals that the corruption is turning him into a living Eclipse Rift generator. Rogue Sentinel willingly surrenders for an experimental procedure that combines Reed's science, Zatanna's magic, Kiswet's reality-sensing ability, and Lady Thor's lightning to eradicate the corruption.
